Oil Painting 1
Learn essential oil painting skills in Oil Painting 1 in a 6-week group class setting. Unlock your inner artist with my Beginning Oil Painting class! Perfect for novices, this course offers a comprehensive introduction to the vibrant world of oil painting. You’ll learn the essentials of materials, mixing colors and navigate the color wheel with confidence. Dive in to fundamental concepts like value and color theory through engaging step-by-step demonstrations and personalized one-on-one guidance. Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or seeking to refine your skills, join me to explore your creativity and build a solid foundation for oil painting! Projects: Create 2 paintings on 8”x 10” canvas.

Oil Painting 2
Learn the next steps in your oil painting skills in a 6-week group class setting. Take your oil painting to the next level with my Oil Painting 2 class! Designed for those with a basic foundation, this course dives deeper into essential drawing skills, effective composition techniques, the art of simplification and continued practice of basic painting skills. Learn to create your own still life setups and bring them to life on canvas, while gaining practical tools that will enhance your independence as a painter. With expert instruction and hands-on practice, this class is the perfect step forward after completing Oil Painting 1. Elevate your skills and start painting with greater confidence and creativity! Project: Create 1 painting on 8”x 10” canvas.

I appreciate that supplies were provided for a reasonable fee. Starting with value/ black and white was a great way to start. For a beginners class, the steps and progress were appropriate. So glad I learned how to prep canvas, the recommended brushes and how to clean them. I would recommend this class for beginners. Good use of visual aids and encouraging and constructive comments on work.

You want lessons that align with your specific artistic goals. I create a learning plan designed just for you to guide you to what you want to learn. Lessons on your terms! I consider it a privilege to teach you. These lessons are for YOU, so I work my hardest to make sure I am giving you the highest quality material to guide you to your specific artistic goals. We work together - You tell me what you are interested in learning and I create lessons based on those things. Through this one-on-one learning experience, not only will you be able to reach your goals faster, you can explore as many topics that interest you as you want!
You’ve ever experienced being ahead, bored, behind or unmotivated in a large class. In these lessons, we have a dedicated hour or hour and half just for YOU. The benefit of this structure, is that we can optimize our time together by moving as fast or as slow as you want and need. We are completely flexible! My goal is for you to GROW. Sometimes that means spending a little extra time on a topic to make sure it’s fully understood or zooming ahead to the next topic.
You find yourself struggling with comparison and the pressure of a large class. Even though we don't want to admit it, many times in classrooms we look around and compare what's on our paper to others' in the room. That can sometimes cause us to withhold questions we have or maybe feel discouraged and in the end, it can hinder our progress. This is a judgement-free zone! I've been right where you are and understand fully how complex drawing/painting can be! Although group feedback can be helpful, it’s important to grow in confidence in your skills first!

After admiring Michaela’s work for years and fumbling along on my own journey with oil painting, I finally decided to take 1-1 lessons in hopes to learn a few skills.
